Anonymous Donor Donates $25 Million To LA Children's Hospital

Anonymous Donor Donates $25 Million To LA Children's Hospital

On Wednesday, July 18th, an anonymous donor gifted the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) with $25 million. The money will be used to build a new neurological outpatient center, which will dramatically increase the hospital’s ability to offer interventional radiation treatments.

The center will be one of only a few locations across the entire country that offers a multi-disciplinary approach that brings together nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, pediatricians, neurosurgeons and other professionals to offer the latest in interventional radiology.

In the past year, the hospital has seen the number if IR patients increase by 30% with more than 3,800 procedures annually. This donation, one of the largest in the hospital’s history, will allow CHLA to continue to meet the growing needs of infants and children throughout Southern California. The new center will include 35 new patient exam rooms, four consulting rooms, five electroencephalogram rooms, two nurse’s stations and a playground for patients.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital also Receives Donations

Chip and Joanna Gaines of “Fixer Upper”

Chip and Joanna Gaines, the former host of the television show “Fixer Upper” have donated $1.5 million to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The couple hopes that the money will prevent families from having to pay for treatments, housing, food and other bills while their children are undergoing treatment.

The money was raised through a social media campaign that used the hashtag #ChipInChallenge. Celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez and Drew Barrymore contributed and helped make the donation possible. This is the second major donation the Gaines have made to the hospital and it looks like they are planning on continuing to work to raise funds for children’s cancer research.

Darius Rucker

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has also received $425,000 from singer Darius Rucker, which was raised through his annual “Darius and Friends” benefit concert and held at the Ryman Auditorium. Over the years, these concerts have raised over $2 million for the hospital. Rucker was motivated to organize the event after seeing how the hospital takes care of patients and their families as they undergo difficult treatments.

These generous donations, from anonymous individuals and celebrities, will go a long way in allowing CHLA and St. Jude to continue their work and expand their services to provide better care for children who are suffering from a range of serious health problems.
