“His name is Sergio and to him, I will be eternally grateful. I’ve never experienced such kindness,” said Jeanne Shearing as she recalled the nurse who helped give her brother an honorable send-off.

US Army SFT/Ret. Sidney Shearing passed away on March 25th at the age of 72 - his dying wish was to receive an honorable send-off. Nurse Sergio, a Sergeant, laid the American flag over Shearing’s body. He proceeded to call Sidney Shearing’s name three times - to which there was no response. Sergio and another man then saluted Shearing for the last time and played Taps as they folded the flag.

Jeanne Shearing, Sidney’s sister recorded the moment and posted the video to Facebook with the following caption,

“My big brother, Sid, finished his journey through this life at 4:55 this morning. The nurse that worked Friday night brought a flag to lay on his bed as he grew closer to the finish line. Sid asked to be called when he passed so he could give him a proper send-off from Saint Francis,” read Jeanne’s Facebook post.

Sidney Shearing served 20 years in the Army and also worked as a Cardiovascular Technician for over 20 years. A Bronze-Star recipient, Shearing’s final wish was to be called at the time of death and to receive a proper send-off. Thanks to Nurse Sergio his wish became a reality.
